COURSE CURRICULUM

The Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Applied Behaviour Analysis – Autism at Capilano University is a 45-credit program structured over four terms, combining academic coursework with practical training. In the first term, students build a strong theoretical foundation with four core courses: Single Subject Research Design and Statistics (ABA 312), Applied Behaviour Analysis I: Principles of Behaviour (ABA 341), Ethics and Professional Standards (ABA 343), and Autism Spectrum Disorders I (ABA 344), totaling 12 credits. The second term deepens this foundation with Applied Behaviour Analysis II: Procedures for Behaviour Change (ABA 342) and Autism Spectrum Disorders II (ABA 346), alongside an elective choice between Supporting Individuals with ASD and Their Families Across the Lifespan (ABA 313) or Assessment and Intervention Planning for Young Children with ASD (ABA 426), adding 9 more credits. In the third term, students complete Behavioural Assessment and Positive Behavioural Support (ABA 345) and engage in a comprehensive 12-credit practicum (ABA 410), which provides supervised experience in real-world ABA settings. The final term consists of Practicum III – Assistant Behavior Analyst (ABA 411), Directed Studies in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA 412), and Advanced Topics in Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA 443), totaling 9 credits. This well-rounded curriculum is designed to meet the coursework and experience requirements of the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB), preparing graduates to become Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts (BCaBAs). With a balance of theory, ethics, and applied practice, the program equips students to effectively support individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders across the lifespan.
