COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science (General) degree at Capilano University is a comprehensive 120-credit program designed to provide students with a solid foundation in scientific knowledge and research skills across a variety of disciplines. The program begins with foundational courses, including INTS 110, computing (COMP 115), calculus (MATH 108 or 116), and statistics (STAT, BADM, or PSYC options). Students complete first-year laboratory science courses in biology, chemistry, and physics, followed by 12 credits of second-year science from at least two different disciplines. At the upper level, students must complete 30 credits of science coursework, including 12 credits from one of three concentrations—Biomedical Science, Computational Science, or Environmental Science—each requiring at least one lab-based course. Students also undertake a research project (SCI 400) and create a degree portfolio (CAPS 499). The program includes an English requirement (ENGL 100 plus one additional course), 6 credits in humanities or social sciences, and 41 elective credits, of which at least 15 must be at the 300-level or higher and 12 must be outside of the degree’s core requirements. Concentration options include Biomedical Science (courses such as Molecular Genetics, Human Physiology, and Medicinal Chemistry), Computational Science (covering data wrangling, machine learning, and big data analysis), and Environmental Science (focusing on conservation, ecosystem restoration, and green chemistry). This diverse, interdisciplinary degree prepares students for careers in science, technology, healthcare, environmental sectors, or graduate studies by equipping them with practical skills, lab experience, and strong research capabilities.
