COURSE CURRICULUM

To earn the Associate of Arts Degree at Capilano University, students must successfully complete 60 semester credits of first- and second-year courses across a range of disciplines. The program includes six credits in first-year English and nine credits in Science, which must comprise at least three credits in Mathematics, Computing Science, or Statistics—where statistics courses offered through Business, Economics, or Psychology may also count—and three credits in a laboratory science. A total of 36 credits must be completed in Arts courses, with at least 18 of these at the 200-level or higher. Students are also required to complete six credits in the Social Sciences and six credits in the Humanities, which may include Creative and Performing Arts, but must not be in English. Additionally, six more credits must be taken in either the Social Sciences or Humanities, also excluding English, and no more than six of these combined credits may be from a single subject area. The program further requires 18 additional credits in Arts courses, along with nine elective credits that can be taken in Arts, Sciences, or other academic areas. This structure provides a broad academic foundation while allowing students the flexibility to tailor their studies to individual interests and goals. It encourages interdisciplinary learning and the development of key skills in communication, analysis, and research. The program is designed to support both academic advancement and diverse career opportunities by fostering a strong base in both general education and focused areas of study.
