COURSE CURRICULUM

The four-year Bachelor of Arts Community Studies (BACS) degree at Cape Breton University offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach to understanding communities and social change. In the first year, students focus on introductory courses in community studies along with general arts subjects, building a foundation in critical thinking, communication, and social awareness. The second year expands on this base with courses in community development, cultural studies, diversity, and social justice, helping students explore how communities function within broader social, economic, and political systems. In the third year, students engage in more specialized and applied learning, including topics such as leadership, policy analysis, community research methods, and program planning, while developing practical skills for working within diverse community settings.
