COURSE CURRICULUM

The three-year Bachelor of Arts Community Studies (BACS) in French at Cape Breton University is designed to develop strong French language proficiency while connecting language learning to cultural and community contexts. In the first year, students take introductory French language courses along with general arts and community studies subjects, focusing on building foundational skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The second year develops intermediate proficiency through more advanced language courses and introduces studies in Francophone cultures, communication practices, and literature, helping students understand how French is used in different social and community settings. In the third year, students engage in higher-level French language study, focusing on advanced communication, cultural analysis, and Francophone studies, including literature and linguistic variation across global French-speaking regions. Throughout the program, students strengthen their analytical, writing, and communication skills while gaining cultural awareness and practical language application.
