Cape Breton University

Cape Breton University (CBU), located in Sydney, Nova Scotia, is the only post-secondary degree-granting institution on Cape Breton Island and serves as a key educational hub for the region. Established through the merger of Xavier College and the Nova Scotia Eastern Institute of Technology, CBU has grown into a respected public university offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in business, science, engineering, arts, and health. Over the years, it has experienced significant international growth, with student enrollment increasing from under 2,600 in 2017 to over 9,100 in 2023, more than 75% of whom are international students. This surge reflects CBU’s global appeal and commitment to diversity and inclusivity. As a member of respected organizations such as Universities Canada (UC), the Association of Atlantic Universities (AAU), the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), and Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan), CBU maintains strong academic standards and global partnerships. With a modern campus, student-focused approach, and a vibrant multicultural environment, Cape Breton University continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the educational and cultural fabric of Nova Scotia.
