ABOUT UNIVERSITY

Cambrian College, founded in 1967, is a public college of applied arts and technology located in Greater Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. It was established during the formation of Ontario’s college system, originally operating campuses in Sudbury, North Bay, and Sault Ste. Marie. In the early 1970s, the North Bay and Sault campuses became independent colleges—Canadore College and Sault College. Until 1995, Cambrian was a bilingual institution offering programs in both English and French, but its French-language offerings were transferred to Collège Boréal that year. Today, Cambrian is the largest college in Northern Ontario, serving over 4,100 full-time students and offering nearly 80 full-time programs across various disciplines including business, health sciences, engineering technology, skilled trades, community services, creative arts, and hospitality. Additionally, the college registers around 9,000 part-time learners annually through workshops, seminars, and online or distance education. Cambrian’s academic structure is divided into five main schools, each focused on different professional fields. The college has placed a strong emphasis on Indigenous education and culturally relevant programming. Over the last decade, Cambrian has seen significant growth in its international student population, especially through its partnership with Hanson College of Business, Health and Technology, which hosts Cambrian programs at private campuses in Brampton, Toronto, and Vancouver. Between 2013 and 2022, the percentage of international students rose from just 2% to 56% of total enrollment. This surge contributed to an increase in Cambrian’s annual revenue from under \$100 million in 2018 to nearly \$300 million by 2024. Despite this growth, not all programs have continued; for instance, the Music Program was discontinued in 2021 despite adequate student interest. Cambrian continues to evolve as a modern, career-focused institution, offering flexible learning opportunities and serving a diverse student body from Canada and around the world.
