COURSE CURRICULUM

The PhD in Chemistry at Brock University requires the completion of 3.0 credits and is structured to develop advanced research expertise and scholarly independence. Students must register in CHEM 7F90 (PhD Research and Thesis) every term throughout the program, demonstrating sustained progress in original research. Two graduate seminars are required: CHEM 5P95 (Graduate Seminar I), to be completed by the end of the first year, and CHEM 7P95 (Graduate Seminar II), to be presented by the end of the second year but no later than the end of the third year. The second seminar must be completed before the candidacy exam. In addition to these core requirements, students must successfully complete at least two 5(alpha)00-level half-credit courses. The selection of these, as well as any additional courses needed to address gaps in the student’s background, is determined by the student’s Supervisory Committee. The program emphasizes intensive research and scholarly development, preparing graduates for careers in academia, industry, or government.
