COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Chemistry at Brock University is typically completed over six academic terms (two years) and requires a total of 3.0 credits. The program is designed to develop advanced research skills and deepen students' knowledge in specialized areas of chemistry. All students must enroll in CHEM 5F90 (MSc Research and Thesis) each term, during which they conduct original research under faculty supervision and complete a thesis that demonstrates independent scientific investigation and meets acceptable scholarly standards. In addition, students must complete CHEM 5P95 (Graduate Seminar I), which involves delivering a seminar presentation on a research-related topic approved by their supervisor, usually by the middle of the second year. Attendance at all departmental seminars, including those presented by peers and external guests, is expected. To fulfill the elective component, students must complete two half-credit graduate-level courses (CHEM 5(alpha)00) and one additional half-credit course, which may be either at the graduate (5(alpha)00) or senior undergraduate (4(alpha)00) level. Depending on their academic background, students may be required to take additional courses to strengthen their knowledge in specific research areas. This well-rounded structure supports the development of expertise in both theoretical and applied chemistry, preparing graduates for doctoral studies or professional roles in industry and research.
