COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biotechnology MSc program requires a total of 3.0 credits for completion, including core thesis and seminar courses alongside elective coursework. Central to the program is BTEC 5F90, the MSc Thesis course, which students must enroll in every term. This course involves the preparation and defense of a thesis that demonstrates the student’s ability to conduct independent scientific research of an acceptable caliber. Alongside this, students must complete BTEC 5P95, Graduate Seminar I, which requires each candidate to present a research-level public seminar during their time in the program, fostering communication and presentation skills essential for scientific careers. Additionally, students must complete three elective half-credit courses, two of which must be at the graduate level (numbered 5(alpha)00 or higher), ensuring advanced specialized knowledge in biotechnology. The third elective can be at an upper undergraduate level (numbered 4(alpha)00 or higher), allowing some flexibility to tailor the program to individual academic and research interests. Together, these requirements provide a balanced combination of rigorous research, communication, and advanced coursework, preparing graduates for careers in diverse biotechnology fields, including pharmaceuticals, environmental science, and policy.
