COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Applied Health Sciences with a specialization in Kinesiology at Brock University is a research-intensive graduate program that provides students with advanced knowledge and practical research skills in the study of human movement, exercise science, and physical activity. All students begin with AHSC 5N01 – Current Issues in Applied Health Sciences Research during their first year and complete AHSC 5F90 – MA/MSc Research and Thesis, which involves developing and executing an original research project under faculty supervision. To support their thesis work, students are required to complete one 0.5-credit research methodology course from a diverse list of options, including both qualitative and quantitative approaches such as AHSC 5P07, 5P17, 5P27, 5P37, 5P38, 5P47, or 5P57. This ensures a solid foundation in research design and data analysis. In addition, students select three elective courses at the 5PXX level or above to tailor their academic experience to specific interests within kinesiology, such as biomechanics, physiology, or motor control. One of these electives may be a Directed Study (AHSC 5P60) or Directed Reading (AHSC 5P61), allowing for focused, individualized learning. This program prepares students for doctoral study or careers in academic research, clinical settings, sport science, and health-related industries.
