COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Applied Health Sciences with a specialization in Health Sciences at Brock University offers a flexible and interdisciplinary research-based graduate program designed to explore diverse health-related topics through both theoretical and practical lenses. Students begin by completing AHSC 5N01 – Current Issues in Applied Health Sciences Research in their first year, followed by AHSC 5F90 – MA/MSc Research and Thesis, which involves conducting an original research project under the supervision of a faculty member. To build a strong foundation in research methodology, students are required to complete one 0.5-credit methods course selected from a comprehensive list that includes qualitative and quantitative approaches such as AHSC 5P07, 5P17, 5P27, 5P37, 5P38, 5P47, or 5P57. These options allow students to tailor their methodological training to align with their research interests and thesis focus. Additionally, students select three elective courses at the 5PXX level or above to broaden their academic scope, with the flexibility to include either a Directed Study (AHSC 5P60) or Directed Reading (AHSC 5P61). This specialization equips students with the critical thinking, research skills, and interdisciplinary knowledge necessary for pursuing doctoral studies or advancing in a range of health-related careers, including health promotion, public health, policy analysis, and healthcare leadership.
