COURSE CURRICULUM

The Finance specialization in the MSc in Management program at Brock University provides students with a strong theoretical and empirical foundation in financial economics and capital markets. The program begins with ECON 5N11 (Mathematics and Statistics Review for Economists) to ensure all students have the necessary quantitative background. Core courses include MSCM 5P03 (Empirical Finance I), MSCM 5P04 (Empirical Finance II), and MSCM 5P41 (Theory of Capital Markets), which focus on empirical methods, data analysis, and the theoretical underpinnings of modern financial markets. Students then choose three advanced finance electives from options such as MSCM 5P42 (Risk Management), MSCM 5P43 (Options and Futures), MSCM 5P44 (Fixed Income Securities and Interest Rate Models), MSCM 5P45 (Advanced Corporate Finance), MSCM 5P46 (International Finance), and MSCM 5P47 (Numerical Methods), allowing them to tailor their studies to their interests and research goals. With the approval of the field advisor, students may also select ECON 5P03 (Econometrics) or ECON 5P13 (Analysis of Time Series) as electives to further strengthen their analytical skills. The program prepares students for doctoral studies or careers in finance by emphasizing rigorous academic research, critical thinking, and practical application of financial theory.
