COURSE CURRICULUM

The Accounting specialization within the MSc in Management program at Brock University provides students with a rigorous foundation in research methodologies and analytical techniques relevant to the field of accounting. Students complete a structured curriculum that includes ECON 5P03 (Econometrics) and ECON 5P04 (Research in Economics), which equip them with essential quantitative and research skills. In addition, core accounting courses such as MSCM 5P32 (Capital Market Research in Accounting), MSCM 5P33 (Advanced Special Topics in Accounting), and MSCM 5P34 (Introduction to Empirical Archival Accounting Research) focus on developing a deep understanding of current issues, empirical methods, and the use of real-world data in accounting research. These courses expose students to a variety of research streams including financial reporting, capital markets, auditing, and governance. To further tailor their learning to individual research interests, students also choose one graduate elective course in consultation with their thesis supervisor and the Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Programs. This pathway is designed to prepare students for success in academic or research-intensive careers by developing strong theoretical knowledge and critical research competencies in accounting, along with the ability to conduct and communicate original scholarly work.
