COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Applied Gerontology (MAG) requires the successful completion of ten half-credit courses, one full-credit practicum (GERO 5F99), and two non-credit seminars (GERO 5N97 and GERO 5N98), typically completed within three academic terms (12 months). Core required courses include GERO 5P02 – Current and Emerging Topics in Gerontology, GERO 5P13 – Advanced Communication and Aging, GERO 5P15 – Introduction to Interprofessional Practice, GERO 5P88 – The Process of Aging, GERO 5P92 – Mental Health and Aging, and either GERO 5P11 or GERO 5P89. Students must also choose four electives from a wide interdisciplinary list, allowing for tailored learning based on individual career goals. Elective options span gerontology-specific courses such as Mobility and Physical Activity in Aging, Community Services for Older Adults, and Death and Dying in Later Life, as well as courses from allied disciplines like Public Health (e.g., Measuring Health Equity, eHealth Innovations), Kinesiology (e.g., Lifestyle Counselling), Business (e.g., Organizational Behaviour), and Health Sciences (e.g., Health Ethics). This structure provides students with both depth in gerontological theory and practice, and breadth through interprofessional learning. The program culminates in a practicum experience, enabling students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world gerontological settings.
