COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA program in Social Justice and Equity Studies requires students to complete a structured course of study that includes the MA Thesis (SJES 5F90), a Graduate Seminar (SJES 5P01), Theorizing Social Justice and Equity Studies (SJES 5P02), Research Methods in Social Justice and Equity Studies (SJES 5P03), and one half-credit elective. The elective is typically selected from courses offered within the Social Justice and Equity Studies program; however, with the approval of the Director, students may choose an elective from another Brock graduate program, a graduate course at another Ontario university through the Ontario Virtual Graduate School (OVGS), or a Directed Studies course. Candidates who lack sufficient academic background upon admission may be required to complete additional credits to meet program standards. Full-time students following Scheme C generally enroll in SJES 5P02, SJES 5P03, SJES 5P01—which usually runs over two terms—and at least one half-credit elective during their course of study. Part-time students typically take either SJES 5P02 or SJES 5P03 in their first year and complete at least one half-credit course annually thereafter. Throughout the program, students engage deeply with social justice theories, research methods, and specialized topics, culminating in an original thesis project that demonstrates their capacity for independent research and scholarly contribution to the field of social justice and equity studies.
