COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Applied Health Sciences with a specialization in Sport Management at Brock University offers a research-intensive graduate experience focused on the critical study of sport organizations, policies, and practices. Students begin with AHSC 5N01 – Current Issues in Applied Health Sciences Research in their first year, alongside AHSC 5F90 – MA/MSc Research and Thesis, which involves conducting original research under faculty supervision. The core specialization course, AHSC 5P08 – Critical Analysis of Sport Management Research, provides students with a deep understanding of theoretical frameworks, contemporary issues, and methodological approaches within sport management scholarship. To strengthen their research foundation, students must complete one 0.5-credit course from a range of qualitative and quantitative methods options such as AHSC 5P07, 5P17, 5P27, 5P37, 5P38, 5P47, or 5P57. Additionally, students select two electives at the 5PXX level or above, with the option to include either a Directed Study (AHSC 5P60) or Directed Reading (AHSC 5P61) to tailor learning to their specific interests. This program prepares graduates for doctoral-level study or advanced careers in sport management research, policy development, consulting, and leadership in sport organizations by equipping them with critical analytical skills, academic expertise, and practical insights into the sport industry.
