COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Applied Health Sciences with a specialization in Nursing at Brock University offers a focused academic and research training experience tailored to advancing nursing practice and scholarship. Students are required to complete AHSC 5N01 – Current Issues in Applied Health Sciences Research in their first year and AHSC 5F90 – MA/MSc Research and Thesis, which involves conducting an original research project under faculty supervision. Central to the Nursing specialization is NURS 5P10 – Basis of Nursing Practice and Inquiry (formerly AHSC 5P10), which explores foundational concepts, theoretical frameworks, and methods relevant to nursing science and evidence-based practice. Students must also complete one 0.5-credit research methods course from a selection that includes both qualitative and quantitative approaches such as AHSC 5P07, 5P17, 5P27, 5P37, 5P38, 5P47, or 5P57, providing a solid methodological grounding for thesis research. In addition, students are required to complete two elective courses at the 5PXX level or above, with the flexibility to include a Directed Study (AHSC 5P60) or Directed Reading (AHSC 5P61) as one of their electives. This specialization is designed to prepare graduates for doctoral study or leadership roles in clinical practice, nursing education, and health policy, through a combination of advanced theory, research skills, and critical inquiry.
