COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Applied Health Sciences with a specialization in Leisure, Health and Wellbeing at Brock University offers an interdisciplinary and research-intensive graduate experience focused on the relationship between leisure practices and overall health. All students are required to complete AHSC 5N01 – Current Issues in Applied Health Sciences Research in their first year and AHSC 5F90 – MA/MSc Research and Thesis, which involves conducting original research under the guidance of a faculty supervisor. For the Leisure, Health and Wellbeing specialization, students must complete AHSC 5P32 – Leisure, Health and Wellbeing, a core course that explores the theoretical and practical intersections of leisure with physical, mental, and social well-being. In addition, students are required to complete one 0.5-credit research methods course from a set of advanced qualitative and quantitative options such as AHSC 5P07, 5P17, 5P27, 5P37, 5P38, 5P47, or 5P57. To further shape their academic pathway, students select two electives at the 5PXX level or above, with the option to include a Directed Study (AHSC 5P60) or Directed Reading (AHSC 5P61). This flexible and rigorous program prepares students for doctoral study or diverse professional roles in areas such as health promotion, therapeutic recreation, public health, and wellness program design.
