COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Applied Health Sciences with a specialization in Health and Physical Education at Brock University provides students with a comprehensive academic and research experience, combining foundational coursework with a thesis-based research project. All students must complete AHSC 5N01 – Current Issues in Applied Health Sciences Research in their first year, and AHSC 5F90 – MA/MSc Research and Thesis, which involves conducting original research under faculty supervision. As part of the specialization requirements, students are required to complete one 0.5-credit research methods course from a range of options, including AHSC 5P07 – Qualitative Approaches, AHSC 5P17 – Qualitative Data Analysis, AHSC 5P27 – Biostatistics, AHSC 5P37 – ANOVA Designs, AHSC 5P38 – Research Design for Social Research, AHSC 5P47 – Regression Designs, or AHSC 5P57 – Quantitative Research Analysis. In addition, students select three elective courses at the 5PXX level or above to further tailor their academic focus, with the option of completing a Directed Study (AHSC 5P60) or Directed Reading (AHSC 5P61) as one of the electives. This program equips students with both theoretical knowledge and practical research skills, preparing them for doctoral studies or careers in health education, curriculum development, physical education, and related fields.
