COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Applied Health Sciences with a specialization in Community Health at Brock University is a research-focused graduate program that combines advanced coursework with an original thesis project. Students are required to complete AHSC 5N01 – Current Issues in Applied Health Sciences Research in their first year, which introduces key topics and methodologies shaping the field. The core of the program is AHSC 5F90 – MA/MSc Research and Thesis, where students conduct independent research under faculty supervision. To fulfill specialization requirements, students must complete one 0.5-credit course from a selection of advanced research methodology options, including qualitative and quantitative approaches such as AHSC 5P07 – Qualitative Approaches, AHSC 5P27 – Biostatistics, AHSC 5P37 – ANOVA Designs, and AHSC 5P47 – Regression Designs, among others. In addition, students are required to complete three elective courses at the 5PXX level or above, which can be chosen from a wide range of relevant topics. For added flexibility and focused study, one of these electives may be a Directed Study (AHSC 5P60) or Directed Reading (AHSC 5P61). This combination of rigorous coursework and intensive research equips students with the knowledge and analytical skills necessary for doctoral studies or diverse careers in public health, community wellness, and health policy.
