COURSE CURRICULUM

The Physics (Honours) BSc program at Brock University offers a rigorous and comprehensive education in the core areas of physics, mathematics, and chemistry. In first year, students build foundational skills through courses such as calculus, linear algebra, essential scientific skills, and introductory physics and chemistry. In second year, the curriculum deepens with studies in mechanics, electronics, optics, and modern physics, alongside advanced math courses like multivariable calculus and differential equations. Students also complete context credits in humanities or social sciences to support well-rounded academic development. The third year emphasizes more specialized topics including electromagnetism, statistical physics, quantum mechanics, and experimental physics, with further mathematical training in complex analysis and advanced differential equations. An option between classical mechanics and additional mathematical methods allows for some program flexibility. In fourth year, students undertake a significant research project (PHYS 4F90), engage in advanced topics such as statistical physics II and quantum mechanics, and select upper-year electives to explore personal interests or complement their research. This honours program prepares students for graduate studies or careers in scientific research, technology, engineering, and other analytical fields by fostering critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and a strong grasp of physical laws through both theoretical understanding and practical experimentation.
