COURSE CURRICULUM

The GAME program offers a comprehensive curriculum combining computer science and game design, delivered jointly by Brock University and Niagara College, preparing students for diverse roles in the gaming industry. In Year 1, students build foundational skills through courses such as Introduction to Computer Science, Data Structures, Mathematical Reasoning, and Multimedia Technologies, alongside explorations of new media, games, and their aesthetics. Year 2 focuses on advancing technical and design skills with courses in Advanced Data Structures, Operating Systems, Ludology, Game Design Paradigms, Environment Design, and Project Management, emphasizing hands-on development through game design and production courses. Year 3 deepens programming and technical expertise with courses in Programming Languages, Artificial Intelligence, Graphics Programming, and Advanced Game Production, alongside studies in Immersion, Simulation, and Game Criticism, while also introducing applied mathematics and physics to enhance technical understanding. In Year 4, students engage in team-based practicum and video game research and development, with opportunities to specialize in advanced computer science topics such as Advanced Object-Oriented Programming, Human-Computer Interaction, and Computer Graphics, as well as network and mobile game programming. This integrated curriculum combines theory, practical skills, and collaborative production experiences, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for innovative careers in game development, programming, design, and production management within the rapidly evolving game industry.
