COURSE CURRICULUM

The Chemistry Honours program at Brock University offers a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum designed to provide students with a strong foundation in chemical principles and practical laboratory skills. In the first year, students take courses in chemical principles, introductory physics with or without laboratory, calculus, and humanities or social sciences credits, alongside electives. The second year focuses on modern physical chemistry, organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and biophysical chemistry, with continued coursework in mathematics and humanities or social sciences. The third year includes advanced topics such as spectroscopic techniques for structure elucidation, protein and nucleic acid chemistry, and a selection of courses covering organic molecule structure and reactivity, transition metal chemistry, quantum chemistry, and instrumental methods for quantitative analysis. In the final year, students complete a research project and thesis, deepen their expertise through advanced chemistry courses, and take additional electives. This program equips students with extensive knowledge and practical experience in organic, inorganic, physical, and analytical chemistry, preparing them for careers in research, industry, or further graduate studies.
