COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biophysics Honours program offers a rigorous and interdisciplinary curriculum designed to provide a deep understanding of living systems at the molecular and physical levels. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation with courses in biology, chemistry, calculus, physics (including laboratory options), and humanities or social sciences. Year 2 expands this knowledge with molecular biology, cell biology, multivariable calculus, differential equations, modern physics, and additional humanities or social sciences credits. Students also choose from various biology electives such as evolution, zoology, plant biology, microbiology, or human physiology. In Year 3, advanced courses include neurobiology, organic chemistry, biophysical chemistry, mathematical methods in physics, electronics, statistical physics, and quantum mechanics, alongside electives in molecular genetics, investigative neurobiology, plant physiology, and medical physics. The fourth year emphasizes research and specialization, with options to complete a two-part research project or select upper-level courses in biology, chemistry, kinesiology, and physics, including topics such as clinical biomechanics, electromagnetism, cellular biophysics, neural networks, physiology of excitable cells, and biophysical techniques. This comprehensive program equips students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing them for careers or further studies in biophysics, medical physics, and related interdisciplinary fields.
