COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Science and Mathematics combined major (Honours) program offers an integrated curriculum that blends foundational and advanced concepts from both disciplines over four years. In Year 1, students begin with core courses in computer science, including Introduction to Computer Science and Data Structures, alongside mathematics courses such as Calculus Concepts I and II, Mathematical Reasoning, and Mathematics for Computer Science, complemented by humanities and social sciences credits. Year 2 builds on this foundation with advanced computer science topics like Advanced Data Structures, Programming Languages, Computer Architecture, and Operating Systems, while mathematics courses cover Linear Algebra I, Multivariable Calculus, Mathematics Integrated with Computers, and Probability, along with an elective. In Year 3, students explore specialized subjects such as Algorithms, Database Systems, Programming in C++, and either Integrity and Literacy in the Information Age or Essentials of Artificial Intelligence. Mathematics courses include Linear Algebra II or Introduction to Combinatorics and Mathematical Statistics I, alongside electives and additional math credits. Year 4 focuses on Software Engineering, Numerical Methods, Theory of Computation, and advanced mathematics credits, providing a comprehensive education that prepares students for complex problem-solving in computing and mathematical theory. This combined major equips graduates with versatile skills applicable to technology development, research, and analytical roles in diverse industries.
