COURSE CURRICULUM

The Honours Bachelor of Music (BMus) program at Brock University offers a comprehensive and flexible curriculum designed to develop both performance and academic skills across four years. In Year 1, students take foundational courses including Applied Music I, Technology Fundamentals for Musicians, Music in Global Cultures, and Materials of Music I and II, along with Integrated Musicianship I and II, and select one language or context credit in sciences or social sciences. Participation in ensembles such as Brock Community Choir, Sora Singers, or University Singers begins early. Year 2 builds on this foundation with Applied Music II, historical music courses covering Western Music from Hildegard to Beyoncé, advanced Materials of Music courses, and Integrated Musicianship III and IV, alongside continued ensemble involvement and completion of remaining language or context credits. In Year 3, students advance to Applied Music III and take half a MUSI credit at the 300-level or above, while continuing ensemble participation and fulfilling elective requirements, with options including Brock Big Band, Wind Ensemble, or String Orchestra. The final year emphasizes specialization with one-half MUSI credit, one MUSI credit numbered 300-level or above, and three elective credits, plus participation in advanced ensembles. This structure balances performance, theory, history, and practical musicianship, providing students with a rich, immersive music education tailored to their interests and career goals.
