COURSE CURRICULUM

The Health Sciences and Child and Youth Studies program at Brock University integrates foundational knowledge in health, biology, and child development across four years. In the first year, students take courses including Introduction to Health Sciences, Biology I and II, Introduction to Child and Youth Studies, humanities credits, and statistics options designed to build essential analytical skills. The second year emphasizes biostatistics, health research methods, nutrition, and the health of Canadian society alongside child development and diversity in youth. In the third year, the curriculum deepens with courses addressing human sexuality, health policy, health promotion, and children’s health, complemented by electives in physiology, immunology, and health behavior, as well as specialized child and youth studies topics such as developmental disabilities and behaviour analysis. The final year focuses on advanced topics including child mental health, physical activity in child health, and specialized health sciences courses in endocrinology, pharmacology, addictions, nutrition, and global health. Experiential learning opportunities and electives further prepare students for careers or graduate studies in health, education, social services, and community-based roles. The program’s interdisciplinary approach ensures students gain critical skills in research, health promotion, and child development, equipping them to make meaningful contributions in diverse health and youth-focused professions.
