COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Honours) in Educational Studies program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for diverse educational roles beyond traditional classrooms. In Year 1, students begin with foundational courses such as Public Pedagogy in Practice and Teaching Adult Learners, alongside social sciences, humanities, and sciences context credits, providing a broad interdisciplinary base. Year 2 emphasizes community engagement and experiential learning through courses like Community Collaboration for Change and Teaching for Change, with options to explore project management, entrepreneurship, and online learning methods. The third year deepens understanding of curriculum foundations, educational psychology, cognition, and social change, while incorporating Indigenous Ways of Knowing and the sociopolitical dimensions of education. In the final year, students engage in advanced internships, research methods, and specialized topics including global education, artificial intelligence in education, mental health, trauma-informed education, and ethnomathematics. Elective and directed study options allow for tailored learning experiences. The program’s focus on equity, diversity, and inclusion equips graduates to design and implement educational initiatives across sectors such as business, non-profits, healthcare, and government. Collaborative projects and field experiences foster practical skills, empowering students to become effective agents of change, though the program does not lead to teacher certification.
