COURSE CURRICULUM

The Women’s and Gender Studies program offers a comprehensive interdisciplinary curriculum designed to explore gender, power, and the diverse experiences of women across history and cultures. In the first year, students take an introductory course alongside humanities and sciences context credits and electives to build foundational knowledge. The second year deepens understanding through courses addressing historical perspectives, gender and violence, media from feminist viewpoints, masculinities, sexuality studies, migration, and feminist perspectives on family and literature, allowing students to engage with critical issues from multiple angles. The third year includes a practicum focused on applying feminist principles in everyday life, further WGST courses, and electives to broaden academic inquiry and practical experience. In the fourth year, students engage in advanced seminars exploring feminist thought, activism, and feminist research methodologies, especially relevant in today’s ‘post-truth’ era. Additional upper-level WGST credits and electives provide opportunities to specialize and refine expertise. Throughout the program, students develop critical thinking, research skills, and a nuanced understanding of intersections such as race, class, sexuality, and colonialism. This well-rounded education prepares graduates for careers in education, law, health, government, social services, and beyond, empowering them to contribute meaningfully to social justice and gender equity efforts locally and globally.
