COURSE CURRICULUM

The Political Science program provides a structured yet flexible curriculum that builds a strong foundation in political analysis, theory, and methodology. In Year 1, students begin with one introductory POLI course (numbered 1(alpha)90 to 1(alpha)99), alongside Humanities and Sciences context credits and two electives to broaden their academic scope. Year 2 deepens this foundation with POLI 2P80 (Introduction to Research Design and Methods), POLI 2P12 (Canadian Government and Politics), and either POLI 2P91 or 2P92 (Political Theory I or II), along with one and a half additional second-year POLI credits and two electives. Year 3 focuses on enhancing research and analytical skills through POLI 3P91 (Quantitative Political Analysis), a further half-credit in political theory, two upper-year POLI credits (numbered 2(alpha)90 or above), and two electives. By Year 4, students complete advanced coursework with a half-credit POLI course at the 200 level or above, one and a half POLI credits at the 290 level or higher, and one POLI credit at the 390 level or above, in addition to two electives. This progression equips students with critical thinking, policy analysis, and research skills essential for careers in law, public policy, advocacy, international affairs, and beyond.
