COURSE CURRICULUM

The Philosophy program begins in Year 1 with foundational studies that include one Sciences context credit, one Social Sciences context credit, and two elective credits, alongside an introductory philosophy course chosen from a range of options such as Introduction to Philosophy: Human Nature, Philosophical Classics and Contemporary Life, The Meaning of Life, or Why Philosophize. These courses introduce students to critical questions about existence, ethics, knowledge, and human purpose. In Year 2, students develop logical and analytical skills through PHIL 2P25 – Introduction to Logic, and deepen their understanding with two and a half credits in upper-level philosophy courses (200-level or above), supported by two elective credits that allow for intellectual exploration across disciplines. Year 3 advances philosophical inquiry with three philosophy credits at the 290 level or above, fostering deeper engagement with both historical and contemporary philosophical thought. In the final year, students complete three philosophy credits at the 390 level or higher, focusing on more advanced topics and independent analysis, alongside two additional electives. This progression trains students to think critically and argue persuasively, preparing them for diverse paths in law, public policy, education, or any field that values thoughtful, ethical reasoning and effective communication.
