COURSE CURRICULUM

The Medieval and Renaissance Studies (MARS) combined major program at Brock University offers an interdisciplinary exploration of the period from late antiquity to the 17th century. In Year 1, students take MARS 1F90 (Medieval and Renaissance Civilizations), alongside one credit from their co-major, Sciences and Social Sciences context credits, and one elective. In Year 2, students complete one-half MARS credit numbered 2(alpha)00 or above, two co-major credits, and one elective. They also select one and a half credits from courses such as Medieval Art and Architecture (MARS 2P89), Early to High Renaissance Art (MARS 2P92), Reading the Middle Ages (MARS 2P95), or Medieval and Renaissance Tales (MARS 2P99). In Year 3, students take MARS 3P96 (Medieval and Early Modern Christianity), MARS 3P97 (The World of the Renaissance), two co-major credits, and one elective. They also choose one full credit from options like Reading the Italian Medieval City (MARS 3F50), The Viking Isle of Man (MARS 3F51), Dante’s Inferno (MARS 3P93), or other approved interdisciplinary courses. In Year 4, students complete MARS 4P00 (Directed Studies), MARS 4P01 (Sources and Methods), one upper-year MARS or approved credit, two co-major credits, and one elective, combining historical depth with transferable research and analytical skills.
