COURSE CURRICULUM

The Labour Studies program at Brock University provides a comprehensive understanding of the world of work, combining academic study with practical skills. In Year 1, students begin with one introductory Labour Studies course, alongside a Humanities and a Sciences context credit, and two electives, establishing a broad academic foundation. In Year 2, students take LABR 2P93 – History of the Global Working Class, along with two and a half additional upper-year Labour Studies courses and two electives, delving deeper into key historical and contemporary issues in labour. Year 3 includes LABR 3P91 – Labour Studies Theory and Methods, two and a half advanced Labour Studies credits, and two electives (one of which must be numbered 2(alpha)00 or above), allowing students to build on their research skills and explore specialized topics. In the final year, students complete one 400-level Labour Studies credit, one and a half credits at the 300-level or above, and a half credit at the 200-level or above in Labour Studies. They also take two electives at the 200-level or higher. This structured yet flexible curriculum prepares students for careers in human resources, labour relations, public policy, education, and advocacy, while also supporting graduate studies or professional training in related fields.
