COURSE CURRICULUM

The French program curriculum begins in Year 1 with FREN 1F90 (French III) alongside one Sciences context credit, one Social Sciences context credit, and two elective credits, providing a foundational introduction to advanced French language skills. In Year 2, students take FREN 2F00 (Grammar and Composition) and FREN 2F03 (Literature and Culture: The French-Speaking World), plus one additional FREN or MLLC credit numbered 200 or above, supported by two elective credits, to deepen their understanding of French language structure and Francophone cultural contexts. Year 3 focuses on more advanced language skills with FREN 3P03 (Composition and Stylistics) and two and a half credits in FREN or MLLC numbered 300 or above, alongside two elective credits, emphasizing refined writing and stylistic techniques in French. The final year, Year 4, includes FREN 4P03 (Linguistic Approach to Textual Analysis), one FREN or MLLC credit at the 300 level or above, and two and a half credits at the 400 level or above, plus one elective credit, allowing students to engage in advanced linguistic analysis and specialized study of French texts. This structured progression equips students with strong language proficiency, cultural knowledge, and critical analytical skills, preparing them for careers or further studies in French language, literature, and related fields.
