COURSE CURRICULUM

The English and Creative Writing program requires students to complete one and one-half ENGL credits from each of Lists A, B, C, and D, plus one credit from a selection of courses that include genre studies, speculative fiction, poetry, literary theory, Gothic writing, literary criticism, and various rhetoric and writing courses. In Year 1, students must complete one Sciences context credit, one Social Sciences context credit, one Humanities elective credit, one elective credit, and one credit from introductory English courses such as Decolonizing Literature, Literature and Wellness, or Reading Literature Today. In Year 2, students take The Creative Writer and two and one-half credits from ENGL or WRDS courses numbered 1(alpha)90 to 3(alpha)99, along with one and one-half elective credits, plus one creative writing course such as Short Fiction, Poetry, or Creative Non-Fiction Writing. Year 3 includes two and one-half ENGL credits, one and one-half elective credits, and one credit from advanced creative writing options including digital media and community-focused writing. In Year 4, students complete one advanced creative writing credit, one ENGL credit numbered 4(alpha)00 to 4(alpha)99, one credit from ENGL or WRDS courses numbered 1(alpha)90 to 3(alpha)99, and two elective credits. This curriculum balances literary study and creative practice, fostering analytical skills and creative expression while offering flexibility to pursue individual interests.
