COURSE CURRICULUM

The Dramatic Arts (DART) Honours program offers a comprehensive exploration of theatre through a blend of academic and practical training across four years. In Year 1, students build foundational skills in scenography, stagecraft, and acting with courses like DART 1F40, 1F50, and 1F90, while also completing required science and social science context credits. Year 2 deepens theoretical and cultural engagement with courses such as Performance as Cultural Practice, Contemporary Canadian Indigenous Theatre, and Canadian Dramaturgy. Students also begin to specialize by choosing from design, stage production, or performance-focused courses. In Year 3, students further develop their understanding of contemporary theatre and performance through courses like Contemporary Theatre and Performance, and Foundations in Performance Studies, while also assembling a Performance Praxis Portfolio and engaging in advanced elective coursework. Year 4 culminates in a capstone experience with Critical Theory and Practice in Drama, Theatre and Performance. Students can also undertake project-based courses such as Performance Research Project, Mainstage Leadership, or Collaborative Play Development to gain hands-on experience in creating, leading, or researching theatrical productions. Throughout the program, students are encouraged to pursue electives and applied work that support their chosen focus, be it performance, production, or theatre creation, preparing them for careers in theatre or related fields.
