COURSE CURRICULUM

The Canadian Studies (Honours) BA program at Brock University, offered at the Main Campus, provides an interdisciplinary education focused on Canada’s diverse cultures, histories, and global relationships. Designed as a co-major, students pair Canadian Studies with a second discipline such as History, English, Politics, or Geography, allowing for a rich, customized academic experience. In Year 1, students are introduced to Canadian identity and Canada’s global role, along with courses from their co-major and electives. Year 2 explores cultural power dynamics and Canada’s national icons, while offering flexibility through electives and approved Canadian Studies courses. In Year 3, students examine Canada from international perspectives, with courses like The New Niagara and options in Indigenous politics, foreign policy, and media representation. Year 4 delves into Canada’s evolving global presence, public policy, heritage, and transnational issues, with opportunities for experiential learning placements. Throughout the program, students gain advanced research, communication, and analytical skills by engaging with topics such as diversity, colonial legacies, cultural policy, and Indigenous-settler relations. The program’s location, near key historic and cross-border regions, further enhances learning. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in government, policy, law, education, culture, and business, where deep knowledge of Canadian issues and identities is highly valued.
