COURSE CURRICULUM

The Community Health program offers a comprehensive curriculum spanning four years, designed to equip students with foundational and advanced knowledge in health sciences and public health. In Year 1, students take courses such as Introduction to Health Sciences, along with statistics and humanities and science context credits, laying the groundwork for understanding health in a societal context. Year 2 delves deeper with courses like Biostatistics I, The Health of Canadian Society, Research Methods in Health, and Health and Behaviour, complemented by electives and specialized topics including Human Physiology, Nutrition, Public Health, and Infection Control. In Year 3, students explore Qualitative Research in Health Sciences, Health Promotion, and Health Campaigns, alongside electives and focused courses such as Biostatistics II, Mental Health and Addictions, Medical Sociology, Global Health, and Environmental Health. The program’s interdisciplinary approach integrates biostatistics, policy, health promotion, and social determinants of health to prepare students for careers or further studies in health-related fields. Through a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, students develop critical thinking and research abilities necessary to address complex health issues, design effective interventions, and contribute to healthier communities locally and globally. This curriculum emphasizes a broad understanding of health, behavior, society, and policy, making graduates well-rounded professionals equipped for diverse roles in community and public health.
