COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Applied Computing program is structured to provide a comprehensive and flexible learning experience over multiple levels. In Level 1, students complete foundational courses such as Applied Algorithm Analysis, Data Science, and Applied Research Methods, with the option to substitute one course with Application Area Directed Studies to tailor learning to specific interests. Level 2 builds on this foundation with courses in Human-centered Computing, a Research Proposal, and electives like Applied Artificial Intelligence or Cyber Security for Applied Computing, again allowing substitution with Directed Studies for specialized focus. In Levels 3 and 4, students choose between two distinct paths. The Thesis Path involves an intensive 30-week M.Sc. Thesis project where students conduct original research and defend their findings, accounting for 12 credits. Alternatively, the Project & Internship Path combines practical industry experience with academic research: students undertake a six-credit Industry Internship alongside a three-credit Research Project, complemented by a three-credit Special Topics course covering emerging areas in Applied Computing. This path provides hands-on exposure to real-world applications and fosters collaboration with industry or research sponsors. The program’s total credit requirement is 30, balancing coursework, research, and practical experience to prepare graduates for advanced roles in applied computing fields or further academic study. This structure ensures students develop both theoretical knowledge and applied skills relevant to today’s dynamic technology environments.
