COURSE CURRICULUM

The Television and Video Production Diploma program at BCIT is a comprehensive four-level curriculum designed to equip students with the skills needed for a successful career in the media industry. In Level 1, students build foundational knowledge through courses such as Media Technology Fundamentals 1, Television and Video Production 1, Writing for Video Production, Introduction to Visual Media, Production Planning, Introduction to Non-Linear Editing, and Communications for Television and Video Production, totaling 23.5 credits. Level 2 deepens this knowledge with courses like Introduction to the Media Industry, Television and Video Production 2, Production Management, News Production Practicum, Media Technology Fundamentals 2, Writing for Television, Non-Linear Video Editing, Production Development and Proposals, and Introduction to Motion Graphics and Visual Effects, adding up to 33.5 credits including a 5-week practicum. Level 3 focuses on advanced skills in Television and Video Production 3, Non-Linear Audio Editing, Advanced Writing for Television, Post-Production, and Advanced Motion Graphics and Visual Effects, totaling 24.5 credits. Finally, Level 4 combines industry preparation and advanced production skills with Television and Video Production 4, Industry Practicum, Broadcast Law, and Communications for Employability, comprising 25.5 credits including another 5-week practicum. Students involved in off-campus practicum activities have the option to substitute certain courses such as Broadcast Law and Business courses. Overall, the program totals 107.5 credits and offers students extensive hands-on experience and technical training in production, editing, writing, and media management, preparing them for careers in television, film, and digital video production industries.
