COURSE CURRICULUM

The Occupational Health and Safety Diploma program is structured over four levels, each designed to provide comprehensive knowledge and skills essential for a career in health and safety. Level 1, spanning 15 weeks, introduces foundational topics such as Business Information Systems, Chemistry for OCHS, Communication, Technical Mathematics, BC OHS Legislation, Occupational Health and Safety Fundamentals, Accident Causation and Analysis, and Applied Physics. This level totals 30.5 credits. Level 2, lasting 20 weeks, builds on this foundation with courses in Human Biology, Introductory Law, advanced Chemistry, Communication, Statistics, OHS Legislation, Safety Program Design, Workplace Hazards and Controls, Hazardous Materials Management, Emergency Preparedness, and Applied Physics, totaling 47 credits. Level 3, a 15-week term, focuses on business fundamentals, advanced communication, industrial relations, safety system analysis, occupational hygiene, laboratory work, workplace hazards, and ergonomics, adding 29 credits. Level 4, also 20 weeks, completes the program with advanced courses in industrial chemical processes, engineering concepts, safety program reviews, human resource management, disability case management, occupational hygiene, occupational diseases, fire safety planning, and environmental management, totaling 39 credits. Altogether, the program accumulates 145.5 credits over approximately 70 weeks. This extensive curriculum combines science, legislation, engineering, and communication to prepare students to effectively identify and manage workplace hazards, design safety programs, and promote healthy, safe work environments across industries. Graduates emerge ready to take on key occupational health and safety roles with strong practical and theoretical expertise.
