COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mining Technology program spans four levels over approximately 64 weeks and totals 132.5 credits, offering a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for careers in the mining industry. In Level 1, students build foundational knowledge with courses such as Chemistry 1 for Mining (6.0 credits), Technical Communication (3.0), Computer Essentials (3.0), Technical Mathematics (6.0), Introduction to the Minerals Industry (3.0), Physical Geology (4.0), and Student Success (0.5), along with Physics for Mining Technology 1 (5.0) and Surveying for Mining 1 (3.0). Level 2 deepens this foundation with Chemistry 2 (5.0), Calculus (5.0), Mineralogy and Petrology (4.0), Surface Mining and Blasting (4.0), Mine Safety (1.5), CAD for Mining (3.0), Physics 2 (5.0), and Surveying 2 (3.0). In Level 3, the focus shifts to applied skills with Mineral Processing 1 (3.5), Statics and Strength of Materials (3.0), Structural Geology (4.5), Underground Mining (4.0), Mineral Deposits (4.5), Soil and Rock Mechanics (5.0), Computer Applications for Exploration (3.0), and Surveying Applications (2.0). Level 4, the most advanced stage, emphasizes real-world application and integration of knowledge through courses such as Assaying and Geochemistry (4.0), Mineral Processing 2 (3.5), Technical Communications 2 (3.0), Capstone Communication (1.5), and Statistics (4.0). It also includes Environmental Applications (3.0), Mine Economics (3.0), Mineral Exploration (4.0), Geological Field Methods (3.5), Mine Design Applications (4.0), and culminates in a capstone Mining Project (5.5). The curriculum blends theory, practical skills, and fieldwork, covering geology, surveying, mining methods, safety, and environmental practices, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for diverse roles in the mining sector.
