COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical Engineering Technology – Mechanical Systems program is a comprehensive two-year diploma consisting of four levels and totaling 137.0 credits. Levels 1 and 2 (15 and 20 weeks respectively) are common to all Mechanical Engineering Technology options, offering foundational knowledge in areas such as engineering materials, technical communication, mathematics, physics, statics, dynamics, strength of materials, engineering graphics, manufacturing processes, and computer applications. These core courses build a strong base in mechanical engineering principles. In Level 3 (15 weeks), students shift focus to mechanical systems, studying subjects tailored to building environmental systems. These include electrical equipment, statistics, fluid mechanics, engineering management, drafting for mechanical systems, heating systems, and heat/cool load analysis. These courses prepare students to understand and design essential systems in buildings. In Level 4 (20 weeks), the curriculum becomes more specialized with advanced topics such as thermal engineering, instrumentation and controls (half-term), energy management (half-term), air conditioning systems, plumbing and fire protection systems, and building construction and project management. Students also complete a systems project that integrates the technical and management skills they’ve developed throughout the program. This level also includes a course on ethics for technologists and technical communication to ensure students are professionally and ethically prepared for the workplace. The program equips graduates with the skills needed to design, manage, and implement heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, and energy systems in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. With a focus on sustainable technologies and energy efficiency, the program supports growing opportunities in the green economy, preparing students for roles in HVAC, energy management, and building systems engineering. The blend of theory, applied learning, and hands-on project experience ensures graduates are job-ready and capable of contributing to environmentally responsible and cost-effective building solutions.
