COURSE CURRICULUM

The Fish, Wildlife, and Recreation (FWR) program consists of four levels designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in natural resource management. Level 1, spanning 15 weeks, introduces foundational courses such as Professional Communications and Practices for Resource Management (3 credits), Technical Mathematics for Natural Resources (3 credits), Natural Resource Measurements (4 credits), Plant Identification and Perspectives (4 credits), Field Navigation (4 credits), Introduction to Earth Science and Hydrology (3 credits), and Identifying and Describing Soils (3 credits). Level 2, over 16 weeks, builds on this foundation with courses including Environmental Chemistry (4 credits), Digital Field Data Collection for Natural Resources (4 credits), Environmental Law and Policy (3 credits), GIS for Natural Resource Applications (4 credits), Wildlife Ecology and Physiology (4 credits), Fish Ecology and Physiology (4 credits), and Habitat Assessment (5 credits). Level 3, covering 15 weeks, enhances technical skills with courses such as Technical Writing and Communication (3 credits), Statistics for Natural Resources (4 credits), Field Project in Fish, Wildlife, and Recreation 1 (7 credits), Terrestrial Field School (3 credits), Parks, Protected Areas, and Recreation (4 credits), Wildlife Management and Stewardship (4 credits), Freshwater Fisheries Management and Stewardship (4 credits), and Indigenous Perspectives and Land Stewardship (4 credits). Finally, Level 4, spanning 16 weeks, focuses on advanced application and integration through courses including Environmental Monitoring (4 credits), Statistical and Spatial Analysis of Biological Data (4 credits), Field Project in Fish, Wildlife, and Recreation 2 (8 credits), Aquatic Field School (3 credits), Integrated Ecosystem Management (4 credits), and Trail Design and Management (4 credits). In total, the program requires completion of 112 credits, offering a balanced combination of theoretical knowledge, technical skills, field experience, and applied projects to prepare graduates for diverse careers in resource conservation, management, and stewardship.
