COURSE CURRICULUM
The Automation and Instrumentation diploma program offers two intake options, September and January, structured to equip students with a comprehensive education in electrical and computer engineering technology over four levels. The September intake begins with a 15-week Level 1 featuring courses such as Technical Communications, Circuit Analysis, Electronic Fabrication, Digital Techniques, Technical Mathematics, and Physics for Electronics, totaling 31 credits. Level 2 extends over 19 weeks, divided into Term A and a shorter Term B, covering Circuit Analysis 2, Digital Techniques 2, Electronic Circuits, C Programming, Calculus, Physics, and technical documentation, with a combined total of 28.5 credits. Level 3, spanning 15 weeks, includes Industrial Process Fundamentals, Sensors, Process Control Devices, PLCs and VFDs, Microcontroller Systems, and Transform Calculus and Statistics, totaling 31 credits. Level 4 runs for 19 weeks with courses in Technical Communication, Technologist Code of Ethics, Industrial Data Communications, Process Automation Analyzers, Industrial Process Control Strategies, Distributed Control Systems, and Instrumentation Engineering Projects, summing up to 30 credits, with an additional four-week term featuring Current Practices, Canadian Electrical Code, and Industrial Systems and Safety courses. The January intake follows a similar curriculum, with Level 1 split into a 15-week Term A and a 4-week Term B, Level 2 covering core electronics and mathematics over 15 weeks, Level 3 split into a 15-week Term A and 4-week Term B, and Level 4 lasting 15 weeks. Optional cooperative education work terms are available throughout the program, offering practical industry experience through up to four paid work terms, each ranging from 15 to 20 credits. In total, the program requires the completion of 132.5 credits, blending theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and professional development to prepare students for careers in automation and instrumentation technology.
