COURSE CURRICULUM

The BCIT Aviation Management and Operations diploma program is a comprehensive, four-term course designed to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge required for a career in the dynamic aviation industry. In Term 1 (16 weeks), students start with foundational courses such as Introduction to Airport and Airside Operations, Air Navigation, Occupational Health and Safety, and Basics of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems. Term 2A (16 weeks) focuses on leadership, aviation statistics, aviation sustainability, and risk management, while also introducing aviation security systems and Canadian regulations. In Term 2B (12 weeks), students participate in a Workplace Education (non-co-op) course, gaining hands-on experience. Term 3 (16 weeks) builds on prior knowledge with advanced topics in airport planning, aviation marketing, finance, economics, and strategic planning, while also introducing the concept of community and public relations in aviation. Finally, in Term 4 (16 weeks), students delve into aviation law, ground operations, emergency management, and people resources at airports. Throughout the program, students engage in applied projects/capstone courses that allow them to integrate theory with real-world practice. The total credits for the program are 124.0, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for a variety of roles within aviation management, security, airport operations, and emergency management. This hands-on, industry-focused curriculum is continuously updated, with direct input from aviation professionals to meet the evolving needs of the industry.
