COURSE CURRICULUM

The Diploma of Technology in Heavy Duty Truck Technology is a comprehensive 20-month program totaling 135.0 credits, structured across four 15-week academic terms and one 15-week paid co-op work term. In Term 1, students build foundational skills through courses in occupational safety (8.0 credits), brakes (4.0), hydraulics (4.0), electrical systems (5.0), frames and suspension (3.0), trailers (2.0), HVAC systems (2.0), and structural components (2.0). Term 2 advances these core competencies with specialized training in electrical diagnostics (4.0), engine systems (11.5), advanced suspension and braking (4.5 combined), mobile refrigeration (4.0), and workshop communication and service operations (4.0 combined). In Term 3, students gain extensive knowledge in powertrain systems (12.0), major engine brands such as Detroit Diesel, Cummins, and Paccar (totaling 7.0), and supporting technologies including after-treatment systems (3.0), power generation (1.5), as well as industry communication and financial service management (5.0 combined). The co-op work term (15.0 credits) offers paid, hands-on experience with industry partners. In Term 4, the focus shifts to advanced and emerging technologies, including electric vehicle systems (13.0), AC motors and control (2.0), vehicle inspection and software programming (4.0 combined), and capstone projects and research (10.0 combined). A certification exam prep course (1.0) ensures graduates are ready for Red Seal and industry credentials. The curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge, technical diagnostics, and professional skills to prepare students for leadership roles in the heavy duty truck industry.
