COURSE CURRICULUM

The Security Systems Technician program is structured over two terms, totaling 28 weeks of training and 53.5 credits. Term 1 spans 12 weeks and focuses on foundational skills essential to the security industry. Courses include Introduction to Security Installations (4 credits), which introduces students to basic concepts and components of security systems. Fundamentals of Electricity and Electronics (10 credits) provides essential knowledge of electrical principles and electronic circuits critical for installation and maintenance. Wiring Methods (10 credits) teaches practical skills in installing and managing wiring systems safely and efficiently. Term 2 lasts 16 weeks and builds on the knowledge gained in Term 1, focusing on more advanced security technologies. Intrusion Alarm Systems (14 credits) covers the design, installation, and troubleshooting of alarm systems used for detecting unauthorized access. A 7.5-credit Practicum offers hands-on work experience with licensed companies, giving students real-world exposure to the industry. CCTV and Access Control Systems (8 credits) trains students in the installation and maintenance of surveillance cameras and card access technologies. The combination of theory, practical skills, and work experience equips graduates with the expertise required to meet industry demands, ensuring they are job-ready for roles in security installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
