COURSE CURRICULUM

The Marine Mechanical Technician Foundation program is a comprehensive training pathway totaling 52.0 credits, designed to prepare students for careers in the recreational and light commercial marine industry. Spanning a range of mechanical and electrical systems, the program begins with essential courses such as Safety in the Workplace (5.0 credits) and Tools and Equipment (2.5), establishing core knowledge in shop safety and tool handling. Students are introduced to marine-specific regulations and vessel operation (2.5), as well as critical onboard systems including Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (3.0), Fresh Water and Bilge Plumbing Systems (3.0), and Vessel Support Systems (2.5). The program offers in-depth coverage of Hydraulic Systems (5.0) and Metal Fabrication and Trailers (3.0), along with practical welding skills (2.0). A strong focus on marine electrical systems is provided through courses in Electrical Theory and Equipment (4.5), Batteries, Charging and Inverters (4.5), DC Circuits and Diagnostics (2.0), and Generator Sets (2.0). Students also explore marine propulsion through Engine Theory and Operation (2.0) and Engine Support and Drive Systems (6.5), offering a solid grounding in diagnosing and maintaining marine engines and drivetrains. The Industry Exploration course (2.0) provides insight into potential career paths and real-world expectations. Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training, this program equips students with the skills necessary to install, maintain, and repair complex marine systems, ensuring they are job-ready for entry-level positions or apprenticeships in the growing marine service industry.
